The role of Young Ambassador for the Warwick Shire requires young people who will accept a “high ranking position” and commit themselves to work with the Community Youth Worker to improve the quality of life for young people within Warwick Shire. The role will require you to actively participate in the achievement of the Program’s objectives, use your initiative to identify exciting projects for the Young Ambassadors to undertake and to be self-driven in seeing the projects through.

Term of Office
Twelve months (option to reapply for another term).

Selection Process
Council advertises for applications for the Program in November every year. To apply complete an application form and return it to Council before the closing date. An interview will then be arranged with a selection panel consisting of the Youth Worker, Councillor, Advisory Committee member and a current Ambassador.

Twelve young people are selected with consideration given to represent the following groups:

  • Age range
  • Gender mix
  • Indigenous young people
  • School students
  • TAFE students
  • Employed young people
  • Unemployed young people
  • Young parents
  • Young people with a disability
  • Geographic locations within the Shire

It is acknowledged that not all groups may be able to be represented but sometimes one young person can represent a number of categories.

Condition of accepting and being appointed as an Ambassador involves attendance at a compulsory training weekend (scheduled within the first month of appointment). This training weekend involves getting to know each other, team building, problem solving, good food, introduction to Warwick Shire Council processes and having fun together.

  • Being prepared to ‘have a go’
  • Keen to provide opportunities for other young people in the Shire
  • Keen to participate and able to follow through on tasks
  • Able to talk to people
  • Willing to listen to other’s ideas
  • Have reasonable social skills
  • Able to meet the time commitment (not just a meeting once a month)
